final exam
1. The art criticism is not a way to insult the piece of someone, it is the way to either say something positive about their piece or to suggest an edit that they could do to their piece. If someone want to insult their piece instead of insulting it, put it into a new way to suggest him something to do instead of insulting the piece.
2. The piece I'm going to critique is the waterfall painting. at first I started by dividing the sections with a pencil. Then I started painting the main colors of the sections to kind of know where things are going to be. I started trying to put details in the pieces but I don't think that it worked really. I should have use different technique and smooth out the edges of each colors to not make it look like block like piece. I think my piece is a bit to cartoon and that I was trying to make it look realistic and I think I can of messed it up. I should have use more realistic colors and create better mixtures and details. I like that waterfall kind of reflect over the water but even that doesn't look realistic. I think one day I will retry to do the same picture and see how it turns out with all the recommendation I gave myself.
3.
a) Is copying always plagiarism or is there a gray area? Explain your thoughts.
Copying is not plagiarism. It is a way to do art. Plagiarism is getting idea from other and trying to perfect it. Let's say you go outside and you see a monument and you started drawing it. Is it plagiarism? No because it taking idea from someone works and trying to do it with your own style. It's almost impossible to draw a picture as perfect as another one. You need to get every details, the measures. Plagiarism doesn't exist in art. It is the way you do things in your own way.
b)What was the warm up or sketchbook assignment that you learned the most from?
I think the Hand drawing was the one where I learned the most. It helped me visualize a thing that is a part of me and draw it with as much details as I can. It helped get perspective too because no one see an hand from the same perspective. I think the second hand drawing that we did is my most achieve piece. For something that looks like it take 10 minutes to do it actually took me 2 hours. I wanted to get as much details as I could get and to make the shadow perfect.
c) Was there a tool you had never used before and learned in this class? What was it and how did you use it?
The pottery wheel was the tool that I never used before. It is really hard but really fun to try to make something good out of it. To get good with it you need to master it and do a lot of hours on it and a lot of broken pieces. The pottery wheels is something that I really wanted to try but never had the occasions to try it. In France I saw a lot of people doing it and I told my mom that I wanted to try it one day. When I used it in class I told my mom that it was really hard to use but that it was fun.
